About my horses

Currently, we have four mares and one stallion living at our barn. Two of them we brought along from the States where we lived for 6 years. Already there I competed with one of my mares in Marathon. To start our breeding program, two new mares, Cali and Kissie, and our stallion Commander and Chief arrived in fall 2008.

How I found Cali, Kissie, and Commander
In March 2007 I decided to fly over and see the horses that interested me for my breeding program life. After having done a lot of research on the Internet and talking to breeders, I wanted to work with the horses and be around them and even more important meet the breeders. Our trip took us to Vancouver and than a two hour flight to Fort St John. Here we got picked up from Janine Welsh who is the breeder of Homestead Morgans see Link. This Farm lies on a hill overlooking the Peace River. In March the snow was still up to our knees and the barometer went not above -10 Celsius. But who cares we came to see horses and I tell you we saw some nice ones. We stayed for 4 days and where spoiled by Janine and John with good food and wine and nice conversations. Deep down I had made up my mind when I saw and met the little Stallion Homestead Commander and Chief, but I wanted to give the other horses in Oregon also a chance. One day we decided to load up couple of horses into the Van and drive over to an indoor arena to see them move. I tell you I was a bit nervous, but Janine and John told me that even though these horses have never been of the farm there should be no problem, and so it was. We all had a blast the horses as well as the humans watching the bunch move around. That's when I noticed Caramel Kiss a little Palomino mare who had more a grayish look to her than Golden Palomino. I had considered her before as a mare to bring across but found her to young. After I saw her move I knew I was in trouble. I will not tell you what she looks like now just look at the pictures yourself (you know the story of the ugly little duckling?).

After these four days we flew back to Vancouver and than drove down to Oregon. First stop over was at Scandia Morgans. If you look for a nice sport Morgan this is the place. Kathie's Morgans have incredible reach out of the shoulder. The only problem was I wanted color and sport in one horse. But Kathy new that and for me it was important to meet a breeder like her who has been breeding in the sport direction for such a long time. From there we went on to Southern Oregon and stayed a couple of days at the Lighthouse Morgans Farm. Linda had a very nice Perlino mare and a Palomino Stallion who I wanted to see. The Perlino mare was already broke she was a sweat mare but more for Western style of riding. The Stallion was a handsome quiet nice to handle horse, but deep inside of me I had already made up my mind. It sure was not easy to choose as Linda made me some really good offers for both horses. The last Farm we visited was Takilmagoldmorgans. A Farm tucked away in a Valley in southern Oregon. The owner runs a tree house resort with her husband and we had the chance to stay in one of the highest tree houses. Sure the horses are on the ground and don't climb trees. I fell in love with a two year old mare of hers Calientito De Oro called Cali (see her page). Well this little mare was so much fun to handle and such a nice mover that I decided once I got back to Europe this Palomino mare would have to be mine. With the help of friends financially I was able to convince my husband that there is not only a Stallion coming but also a mare. In summer she was brought up to the Canadian border by her breeder Peggy and met Janine who took her up to Fort St John where she is now with the other horses. They will be flying out from Calgary this fall. Well the second mare Caramel Kiss I just could not refuse either. There is a saying all good things are three. So let us see if I am right.
