About myself and living with horses
I guess I have always been lucky. I have met the right people at the right time that showed me how to work my horses.
I started riding, like all young girls at the age of nine. I remember well it was an ex sergeant who owned the riding school. He was very tough with us, but still I spend all my spare time there to clean stalls and the usual things. School came after horses. So my parents decided something had to change. I was put in a boarding school. But guess what? There was a horse and a donkey and I became friends with the girl who owned them. We moved around a lot different countries big Cities, and even different continents but I always had my uncle that I could count on as he had a farm in Germany and bred Trakehners. So when I could I went to see him.
My dream was once to become a breeder of horses like him. Well some goals are only achieved after a long time. During my studies at University I had no possibility to ride or even be with horses but when I took up my first job I looked around to find a place to ride again. My first horse was a Swiss mountain horse. A mare that had been used as a lesson horse in a riding school. She was not very tall and therefore often used for children. She started to hate her job and she showed it very well when she did not like someone, she became dangerous. That's when we met and somehow I bounded with her. She realized I gave her a chance and she gave me a chance as well. This mare made me realize how easy it is to destroy the trust and how difficult it is to build it up again. I bought her for little money and she became my teacher in looking at horses in a different way besides just riding them. Slowly we became partners.
In the barn where I boarded I met a lady who showed me how to lunge my horse and other things. I never was afraid to ask for help when I needed it. This is in general my policy working with horses as I think you can always learn something from others. That's why I try to find people to work with that have achieved more than I in the horse world.
